Michael was always an unforgettably passionate teacher and pianist. His deep understanding of music was often inspirational, with his clear explanations always prompting new ideas to reflect upon. His focus on pushing the boundaries of musical expression was an invaluable lesson, and I am frequently reminded of and guided by his teachings
— Kevin Song, Pianist and Teacher
As a returning classically trained pianist working many years on Wall Street, I consider myself very fortunate to have found Michael Smith to encourage and empower me at the keyboard. He has a knack for explaining technique in more accessible ways and enriching my performance by creating a robust understanding of music technique. Michael has been very patient while also setting expectations so I am able to challenge myself in between my lessons. Although I could not meet with him on a weekly basis, he scheduled two hour uninterrupted lessons with me so he could accommodate me. While studying with Michael I made tremendous growth both in theory and performance and would highly recommend him for anyone who desires returning to studying and expanding their knowledge and performance as well.
